Environment
The land of Elk Meadows radiates peace and harmony. We are dedicated to preserving this natural beauty that surrounds us. We want to live in harmony with the land and make use of its resources as wise stewards. Our goal is to learn to be as environmentally intelligent as possible. We will be developing alternative energy sources, water conservation, and we encourage (but do not mandate) green home construction for your own health. We also are carefully attending to the natural landscape, maintaining local wildlife habitat and animal migration routes. We are restoring existing washes and streams and replenishing or creating many ponds (using recycled water.)
In all we do, we want to maintain a peaceful environment for humans where we benefit from what's already present here rather than disturb it. Research has demonstrated that people who live in harmony with their surroundings are healthier, less stressed, and experience a greater sense of well-being.
Our CC&Rs start with a quote from Aldo Leopold, one of America's great naturalists:
"We abuse the land if we view it as a commodity. When we see the land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
